The Risagallo family is first mentioned in history when Marco Risagallo, a Brindisian cavalry officer, took command of a small Brindisian army during a minor battle. The appointed commander had managed, through his own incompetence, to kill himself and half his soldiers and although Marco failed to recover from this and still lost the battle, he lost with such flair that the Duca di Finisterrae decided to grant him the title Visconte di San Passado, San Passado being a small but picturesque fishing town in Finisterrae province.
The family then fades into obscurity for several years, until the 10th Visconte was forced to flee Brindisi after San Passado was sacked during a civil war. The family fled to Ankh-Morpork with only what they and their servants could carry and, as this was quite a large fortune, were welcomed with open arms.
For several years they lived comfortably on this fortune until the 16th Visconte lost nearly all the remaining money to an unlicensed theft. The thieves involved were eventually caught and dealt with by the Guild of Thieves, Cutpurses and Allied Trades in their usual manner, but the money was never recovered.
The 17th Visconte is remembered as having died with his wife in a boating accident shortly after their eldest son enrolled in the Assassins Guild school, the enrollment fee using up the last of the family fortune. The timing of their deaths is, of course, purely coincidental.
The current Visconte di San Passado, the 18th to bear that title, is Ukko Risagallo. He is a member of the Guild of Assassins of Ankh-Morpork.
His younger brother, Carino, was adopted by the old Visconte's Butler after their parent's unfortunate accident and learnt his trade in the Guild of Thieves.
