(Answer) (Category) Discworld Faq-O-Matic : (Category) Starting Out :
There are so many lands to choose from, which is best to start in?
Your starting land determines which language you will speak fluently and which nationality you will be going by. If you have read any of the Discworld books, you might be inclined to choose an area which you feel suits your character best. In general it can be said that the big cities are the least difficult to start out in, since they have the most guild accommodations, shops and other helpful commodities available. Ankh-Morpork, being the biggest city on the Discworld, is therefore a good choice to start in, but Bes Pelargic and Djelibeybi also provide you with all the essentials to start off with for the first time.
It is important to note that Lancre is a long way from the major cities, although still relatively safe. Uberwald on the other hand is not only remote, it is also an extremely dangerous area. Especially at night.
